If you want to know how to cure a cold, you will be hard pressed to find a real answer to anything. The common cold is a complex strain of evolving viruses that change rapidly. Scientists and doctors who develop immunizations would be spending months trying to keep up with each new strain. Instead, there are several options to cure your cold symptoms, as well as reduce the likelihood that you will develop a cold in the first place.

Minimize Your Risk For Developing A Cold

The first step is to minimize your risk. Keep your hands clean, and avoid touching your face. This is especially crucial during high cold seasons, such as spring and winter. Washing your hands often is key, but washing your hands too much can cause more bacteria growth. Disinfect areas that get germy, such as your computer keyboard, door knobs, and toilets.

Make sure you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables that contain high levels of antioxidants and vitamins. Eating a balanced diet will heighten your body’s defenses to fend off viruses. Exercising often will also increase your body’s ability to resist cold symptoms, even if you contract the virus. Disinfecting is easily the #1 way to prevent getting sick during the winter months.

Ancient teachings say that going outdoors when it is especially cold increases your chances of getting sick. This is partially true and only if you are outdoors for an extended period of time. If it’s chilly out, be sure to bundle up and keep yourself warm and shielded from the elements.

Curing Your Cold Symptoms

Even though the cold itself isn’t curable with a shot, or preventable with a shot, you can take extra cautionary measures to keep the symptoms at bay. Headache, fever, dehydration, sore throat, runny nose and eyes, and sneezing are all symptoms of the common cold. No one medication can prevent them entirely, and you shouldn’t take too many things at once. Warm tea is great for reducing sore throat and gargling salt water also helps reduce inflammation. Drinking plenty of liquids and taking a headache and fever reducer can dramatically fix any discomfort. The length of your cold depends on how well you take the preventative steps to do so. Antibiotics should never be given if you are experiencing a viral infection. Antibiotics are only effective on bacterial infections.

Alternative Options For Curing Your Cold

Taking vitamin C supplements, Zinc, and Vitamin D can all help cure your cold if you have one. Of course it’s better to eat foods high in those things, but that isn’t always possible. These three treatments are quite effective at curing symptoms if taken in the right amounts. Some doctors even recommend drinking plenty of orange juice and getting some sunlight each day while you have a cold.
